November 6, 2012 General Municipal Election The City of Imperial conducts general municipal elections in November of even-numbered years to elect members to serve on the City Council. There are five members of the City Council, each serves a four-year term. The offices of City Clerk and City Treasurer are also elected. The General Municipal Election is consolidated with the Statewide General Election and conducted by the County of Imperial. Next Election: the City of Imperial will conduct an election on November 6, 2012 for the positions of two Council members, City Clerk and City Treasurer. VOTER REGISTRATION Voter registration forms may be obtained from the City Clerk’s office or from the Office of County of Imperial Registrar-Election Department. NOMINATION PROCESS To be a candidate for City Council, you must be registered to vote in the incorporated area of the City of Imperial at the time nomination papers are issued. Nomination papers require that the candidate obtain not less than 20 nor more than 30 signatures from eligible registered Imperial voters who reside in the City. Filing Period: The filing period to be a candidate for the November 6, 2012 election is July 16, 2012 through August 10, 2012. BECOME A POLL WORKER What are the responsibilities of a Pollworker? Pollworkers must be available between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. to set up the polls, provide assistance to voters, and conduct poll closing procedures. If you are interested in becoming a pollworker for the City of Imperial, please contact the Imperial County Election Department.
